High-Shrinkage Yarn

Introduction

High-Shrinkage Yarn (also known as Bulky or Self-Crimping Yarn) is a structural fiber designed to create density, volume, and texture in finished fabrics. By utilizing a unique polymer formulation that has not been fully heat-set, GC FIBER produces a yarn that reacts when exposed to steam or boiling water during the fabric finishing stage. While standard yarns shrink by 2%-5%, our high-shrinkage variants contract by 15%-45%.

When woven or knitted alongside standard yarns, the high-shrinkage fibers pull the other fibers together, creating a "bubbly" texture, a denser weave, or a faux-fur effect. This is the industrial secret behind high-density microfiber towels, crepe-style fashion fabrics, and ultra-dense industrial filters. It allows manufacturers to weave a "loose" fabric that is easy to handle and then transform it into a high-density masterpiece through a simple heat treatment.

Application

Ultra-High Density Microfiber

Used in premium cleaning cloths. The shrinking action creates microscopic gaps that trap dust and water more effectively than standard weaving.

Crepe and Seersucker Fabrics

Essential for high-fashion textures where a "wrinkled" or embossed look is desired without manual stitching.

Synthetic Suede and Leather

Used as a base layer to provide the necessary thickness and "bounce" found in natural animal skins.

  • A: Visible shrinkage usually begins at 70∘C, but full performance is achieved in boiling water (100∘C).
