Aramid Yarn

Introduction

Aramid Yarn (Aromatic Polyamide) is a class of heat-resistant and strong synthetic fibers used in aerospace and military applications. At GC FIBER, we provide both Para-Aramid (known for its incredible tensile strength and modulus) and Meta-Aramid (renowned for its excellent thermal stability and flame resistance). These fibers are characterized by their long-chain molecules where at least 85% of the amide linkages are attached directly to two aromatic rings. This molecular "backbone" is incredibly rigid, making Aramid 5 times stronger than steel on an equal-weight basis.

Our Para-Aramid filaments are designed for ballistic protection and mechanical reinforcement, offering high resistance to impact and abrasion. Meanwhile, our Meta-Aramid yarns are the industry standard for heat shields and protective clothing, as they do not melt or ignite in normal levels of oxygen and can withstand temperatures up to 400∘C before carbonizing. These yarns are the choice for environments where failure is not an option.

Application

Ballistic and Cut Protection

Para-aramid is the primary material for bulletproof vests, helmets, and cut-resistant gloves used in glass and steel manufacturing.

Firefighter & Pilot PPE

Meta-aramid is used for "turnout gear" and flight suits, providing vital seconds of escape time during flash-over or cockpit fires.

Optical Fiber Reinforcement

Used as a strength member in fiber optic cables to prevent the delicate glass strands from snapping during installation.
