What Is Safety Net & Protective Yarn

Safety net and protective yarn is a tough, weather-resistant yarn, typically made from high-density polyethylene (HDPE) or polypropylene (PP), designed for knotting, weaving, or knitting into nets and mesh fabric used to protect people, structures, and materials. Unlike apparel yarn, this category is judged mainly on tensile strength, knot/mesh retention, and resistance to sun, wind, and outdoor weathering over long periods.

Because these nets are often installed outdoors for months or years at a time, whether on a construction site, along a highway, or around a sports field, the yarn needs stabilizers to slow down UV-driven degradation, along with enough strength to hold its shape and function under wind load and repeated impact.

HDPE vs PP for Protective Netting

HDPE yarn is widely used for construction safety net, debris net, and windbreak net because of its good balance of strength, flexibility, and UV stability. PP yarn is often chosen for lighter-duty or more economical netting applications, such as certain fencing, packaging, and general-purpose mesh products.
