Hollow (Thermal) Yarn

Introduction

Hollow Yarn is a high-tech filament designed for superior thermal insulation and lightweight comfort. By using a specialized spinneret, GC FIBER creates a continuous air pocket inside each individual fiber. This "hollow core" acts as a natural insulator, trapping body heat and creating a thermal barrier against external cold—similar to the structure of polar bear fur. Because air is lighter than polymer, fabrics made from hollow yarn are 20%-30% lighter than standard fabrics of the same thickness.

Our hollow fibers are primarily produced from polyester (PET) for its moisture-wicking and quick-dry properties. The air core also provides enhanced "bulkiness" and a soft, wool-like hand-feel without the weight. This makes it the premier choice for winter base layers, thermal socks, and lightweight filling for high-end outdoor jackets.
