Introduction

Self-healing textiles represent the next frontier in material longevity. GC FIBER’s Self-Healing Yarn utilizes a proprietary thermoplastic elastomer (TPE) coating that can autonomously repair microscopic tears and punctures. When the fiber is damaged, the molecular chains at the edge of the tear are engineered to remain "active." Upon application of mild heat (body heat or friction), these chains re-bond, effectively "closing" the hole and restoring up to 95% of the original tensile strength.

This technology is critical for inflatable structures, outdoor performance gear, and industrial curtains where a small puncture could lead to catastrophic failure. By reducing the need for patches or replacements, self-healing yarns offer a sustainable path to "zero-waste" apparel maintenance.
