Introduction

Polyester POY yarn is the intermediate filament used by texturing mills. It is spun at high speed so the molecules are only partly aligned, which leaves it highly elongated and not yet stable. A draw texturing machine finishes the drawing and adds crimp to make DTY.

Because POY is not a finished yarn, handling matters. Elongation and dye uptake can drift with time, temperature and humidity, so mills texture it within a limited storage period and keep packages in clean, cool conditions. We advise on shipment quantity and storage when you order.

Application

POY yarn is bought to be textured. Typical routes are:

  • Draw texturing into DTY: the main use for knit apparel, socks and home textiles.

  • Dope-dyed DTY: colored POY becomes colored DTY with the color built in.

  • Trader stock for contract texturing: traders buy POY and have it textured to order.

  • Twisting and plying lines: for composite filament yarns.

  • Own-brand yarn programs: mills selling a textured range under their label.

The count you choose for POY decides the final DTY count, so match it to the draw ratio of your machine.

Payment and Shipping

Payment terms

  • T/T (bank transfer) is our standard method; L/C at sight is accepted for qualified orders.

  • Deposit and balance terms are written into the quotation, so there are no surprises at shipment.

  • Sample orders can be settled by bank transfer or other methods we agree on with you.

Shipping and lead time

  • Goods ship from our factory base in Haian, Nantong, Jiangsu, with Shanghai seaport as the usual port of loading.

  • Sea freight for production quantities, express (DHL, FedEx, UPS) or air freight for samples and urgent lots.

  • Trade terms such as EXW, FOB Shanghai and CIF can be quoted according to your forwarder setup.

  • POY is usually shipped by the container. We recommend consolidating counts and colors, and we state storage advice in the quotation.

  • Export packing is done in cartons on pallets, with labels showing denier, lot number and net weight.

  • Q: What is polyester POY yarn?

  • A: It is partially oriented polyester filament, spun but not fully drawn, supplied as feedstock for draw texturing into DTY.

  • Q: Can I use POY yarn directly in fabric?

  • A: Not normally. It is unstable and very stretchy. For ready-to-use smooth yarn, use FDY instead.

  • Q: How long can POY be stored?

  • A: Only for a limited time, because properties can drift. We advise the period for your count and conditions at order. Keep it cool, dry and clean.

  • Q: Which POY count should I choose?

  • A: Tell us your machine, target DTY count and draw ratio. We will suggest the POY count and elongation.

  • Q: What should I check on the data sheet?

  • A: Denier tolerance, elongation, tenacity, oil content and lot uniformity. Our POY guide lists the main points.

  • Q: Do you offer dope-dyed or recycled POY?

  • A: Both on request. Share shade, certification needs and quantity so we can quote correctly.
